Tame the Beast: Getting the Upper Hand in General Protections Claims – with Anca Costa

General Protections actions can be an unwieldy beast. We know that employers often struggle to navigate the complex definitions of ‘workplace right’, ‘discrimination’ and ‘adverse action’.

Join Barrister Anca Costa as she provides a ‘survival kit’ to help employers make their way through the tangled legal web of General Protections claims. Anca will guide you through the legislative provisions that govern General Protections applications, what workplace rights are protected, what constitutes adverse action, how to defend a General Protections application and finally, how to avoid having one made against your business.

Anca Costin was called to the ACT Bar in 2019 and has her Chambers at Blackburn Chambers. Prior to that she worked at the ACT Human Rights Commission, Elringtons Lawyers and at BAL Lawyers as a Senior Associate in the Employment Law and investigations team. At the Bar, her practice comprises a range of areas, including employment law, occupational regulation and disciplinary matters, administrative law, personal injury and commercial litigation. Anca was legally trained in Europe where she was awarded a Bachelor of Law in 2003. In 2019, Anca was awarded the ACT Bar Association’s Women Scholarship, given annual to women practising at the ACT Bar.
