This month’s HRBC tackled the evolving law and issues around casual employment in Australia, particularly regarding long term or ‘permanent’ casuals in the labour hire sector.
After discussing the recent Workpac litigation, the key take out for employers was identified at the need to ensure that contracts of employment are carefully drafted.
Specifically, employers should ensure that the casual contracts reflect the reality of the employment being offered, particularly the fact that the nature and duration of the employment is effectively at the whim of the host/client.
