The past few months have seen Parliament House rocked by sexual harassment allegations; first those made by former staffer Brittany Higgins and then the revelation of historic rape allegations against Attorney General Christian Porter. The events at Parliament have shown just how complex complaints handling can be in the sexual harassment arena.
This HR Breakfast Club will explore the legal foundations, both civil and criminal, underlying workplace sexual harassment complaints, and the obligations of local government when a complaint is made. We will focus on how HR might best apply these concepts in a post #MeToo world.
This session will feature Madeleine Castles, BA (ANU) LLB with Honours (ANU – present), formerly a member of the Legal Policy & Research Unit of the International Bar Association, London. The IBA’s explosive 2019 ‘Us Too? Bullying and Sexual Harassment in the Legal Profession’ Report covered 7000 individuals from over 135 countries, and as such was the largest-ever global survey on bullying and harassment in that profession.
